新西兰车祸事故频发，尤其是习惯左驾驶的新手新西兰移民以及亚裔新西兰移民更需谨慎驾驶。近日，新西兰高等法院披露了一起令人痛心的车祸事故。一个马来西亚家庭原本来新西兰旅游度假，企料在旅行途中遭遇严重车祸，驾驶员的双亲也在这起事故中双双殒命，让原本幸福的大家庭陷入了阴霾之中。
据法院文件披露，驾驶员为死者的女儿——Evvon Le Fern Tiang（33岁）；本周一，Tiang驾驶一辆租赁汽车，带着一家6口前往惠灵顿，结果在行驶到Levin附近时发生了车祸。
当时，汽车里总共有6人，除了Tiang以外，还有她的父母、奶奶以及两个兄弟/姐妹。
目前她的父母——Chong EE Tiang 和 Siew Ying Tye 已经宣布死亡，奶奶还在医院里接受治疗。
面对这起惨剧，Tiang今天在Levin地区法院上痛哭流涕，其辩护律师Daniel O'Neill则表示，介于被告的心理遭受了严重的创伤，他认为自责就是对她最大的惩罚。
面对疏忽驾驶这一指控，Tiang供认不讳，她表示自己是第一次受审，并且希望能尽管结案，以便在下周赶回马来西亚操办父母的葬礼。
据悉，Tiang一家在今年7月6日抵达新西兰，他们原本计划从Levin出发开车前往惠灵顿，但怎么也没想到的是，这趟南岛自驾游竟然会变成一桩惨剧。
事故发生时，Tiang将汽车开到了道路中线上，虽然她曾试图纠正方向，但由于用力过猛，汽车尾部不慎发生了漂移，接着便不受控制地开出车道， 撞上了路旁的两棵树，并最终停在了路旁绿化带上。
Tiang的父亲当场死亡，母亲在被送入惠灵顿医院后也在隔天死亡，她的祖母目前还躺在医院里接受后续治疗。
法官Stephanie Edwards认为，Tiang在这起事故中即是肇事者也是受害人。
她说：“也许是因为对租赁汽车不熟悉，或者不习惯国外的道路环境，所以Tiang才一时疏忽，酿出了惨剧。”
因为Tiang的家人已经面临很大的财务困境，所以法官没有向Tiang判处罚金。
Edwards表示：“你失去了双亲，这已经是本次事故对你的最大惩罚。”
法官最后对Tiang的定罪是——禁止她在未来12个月内驾车。
其实，新西兰每年都会发生很多跟初到新西兰的新西兰移民和海外驾驶员有关的车祸事故。
据悉，2016年的时候，新西兰共发生了286起致命车祸，其中24起与海外司机有关；在2099起重伤车祸事件中，有114起涉及海外司机。
数据显示，在超过一半的车祸案件中，事故方都来自习惯左驾驶的国家；在致死车祸案件中，大约三分之一的人都是因为没有靠左行驶才酿成了惨剧。另外，作为自驾游胜地，新西兰南岛43%的车祸都与海外司机有关，因此初到新西兰的新西兰移民开车需谨慎。
